7 Things To Know About 808 Festival Yangon Ahead of Its Debut

We’re less than a day away from the highly-anticipated expansion of 808 Festival in Yangon. But beside your knowledge of the headliners and what party gear to bring, do you know all there is to know about the festival? We’ve got a PSA from the 808 crew themselves.

808 Festival Yangon is a collaboration between two entertainment companies in Thailand and Myanmar. The team comprises mainly of Retox Sessions and H-Life entertainment. 808 Festival started in Bangkok four years ago and this year we’re hoping to find 808 a home here in Yangon, too.

The full lineup. Besides one of the biggest DJs in the world, Hardwell, as headliner, fans can expect the industry’s heavyweights like Yellow Claw, Carnage, Dillon Francis co-helming the festival. Day 1 would focus on progressive house, leading by Breathe Carolina, Dzeko & Torres, Mike Williams and local stars Double U and The Bugbears. Day 2 is pure trap, with the support of Borgore, Valentino Khan and Myanmar rising star Terror Bass.

The first in EDM festival in Myanmar to take place for two days. We have put a lot of effort to deliver a bigger production and cater to wilder crowd and different tastes of electronic music for two consecutive days, which, despite the EDM boom in the past year, has never been done here before.

Why electronic music is more popular than pop and other genres in Myanmar. Electronic music is a huge trend worldwide today. Likewise, it has gained immense popularity in Myanmar. It’s more popular than pop because the music itself delivers so many emotions to people. No matter who you are or where you’re from, the beat, the rhythm, the atmosphere just have that impact you and you can’t help but to go with it.

The scene will keep growing. There were only a handful of music festivals in 2015, but that number significantly increased this year. We as both an organiser and music fans have high hopes and expectations for 2017, not only for EDM but also for other types of music.
As long as the fans are ready, there’s no reason why more events and opportunities won’t happen.

As for us at H-Life Events, we will be planning our usual events in 2017 such as Thingyan Music Festival during Thingyan (Myanmar water festival in April), Together Festival 2017 and something new planned for early summer. We cannot share the details with you at the moment but we guarantee that a lot more exciting moments and experiences are coming. So, stay tuned!

For now, you will not regret walking into our 808 universe this weekend. Haven’t bought your ticket? Limited walk-in tickets will be available at the entrance ticket booth on both event days, December 10 and 11. See you at The One Entertainment Park, Thingangyun Township.
