Announced by Global Citizen and the European Commission, Global Goal: Unite for the Future will take place this weekend and will be made available internationally across all platforms such as Global Citizen’s Twitch, Twitter, and YouTube as well as local broadcasting channels in each country.
Global Goal is more than just a concert. It is a campaign, concert and summit calling on its citizens to tackle global injustices by using our collective voice to drive change for everyone, everywhere.
The concert will be preceded by a summit, which will shine a light on how the global coronavirus pandemic has disproportionately impacted marginalized communities.
“Unite with Global Citizen, the European Commission, top artists and global leaders to end COVID-19, build equity for all and fight for the world we want.”
Hosted by Dwayne Johnson, the concert will feature performances by Chloe x Halle, Christine and the Queens, Coldplay, J Balvin, Jennifer Hudson, Justin Bieber and Quavo, Miley Cyrus, Shakira, Usher, and Yemi Alade as well as appearances by Chris Rock, Hugh Jackman, Kerry Washington, Charlize Theron, Forest Whitaker, David Beckham, Salma Hayek Pinault, Billy Porter, Diane Kruger, Antoni Porowski, Ken Jeong, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Olivia Colman, President Macron, President von der Leyen, President Ramaphosa, Mike Bloomberg, Bill and Melinda Gates, Dr Jeremy Farrar, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, and more.
Host Dwayne Johnson said:
“I’m proud to join Global Citizen and the European Commission to host the ‘Global Goal: Unite for Our Future’ concert. The event aims to lift up the global community that is tackling equitable access to health care, and other enormous injustices facing our world. This critical moment in history requires all of us — so let’s join together to chart a better future, for everyone.”
Said Hugh Evans, co-founder and CEO of Global Citizen:
“Global Citizens around the world are calling for systemic change, change that brings about justice for everyone, everywhere, regardless of where they were born or the color of their skin. If we are to end COVID-19 for all, we need our world leaders to commit the billions of dollars needed to equitably deliver testing, treatments, and vaccines.”
Evans added that Global Goal will “bring the centuries-old concept of music as a motivator for change and unity, together with science and data, to honor the problem solvers — including doctors, scientists, lab workers, essential workers, and human rights advocates — who are racing to not only create the cure for COVID-19, but also to ensure that it’s available for everyone who needs it.”
Said Miley Cyrus:
“This moment requires all of us to act. Because of this global effort, we will be more able to ensure that everyone, everywhere has access to COVID-19 testing and treatment, regardless of their income or where they live.”
“We need health equity and global justice, and we know that only by uniting to fight for the world we want can we build back toward a healthier future for all.”
It’s time to fight for the world we need.
