Tomorrowland or no Tomorrowland, more and more western EDM festivals are following Ultra’s footsteps as Electric Daisy Carnival and Electric Zoo both announced Asian expansions, set to debut this November.
Since its conception in 1991, Electric Daisy Carnival has held various editions in North America, Mexico, Brazil, the UK and Japan. Now India is set to welcome the famed Las Vegas festival as Budweiser announced they’re hosting EDC India on November 12-13 at Buddh International Circuit, Noida.
Barcelona’s iconic Sónar Festival is coming to Hong Kong
The festival will have no headliners as always (they’ve officially pronounced festival-goers are their headliners – oh, stop it you) but the lineup does include crowd’s favourites like Afrojack, Alesso, R3hab, Steve Aoki and Yellow Claw, as well as other 30 plus top Indian and international DJs and electronic acts.

In equally big news, New York City-borne festival Electric Zoo is expanding to China for the first time in Electric Zoo: Countdown Shanghai on November 12 at the Expo Park, Shanghai.

This will mark the third time the EDM festival is held outside of the United States, after a Mexican edition in 2014 and Electric Zoo Beach Tokyo in 2015.
“Following the success of Electric Zoo New York 2016 we felt the perfect next move was to continue the expansion of the festival to new markets,” said Adam Richman, Director of Electric Zoo at SFX Entertainment, Inc. “We couldn’t have picked a more exciting market, Shanghai, or a better partner, [music service company] Kanjian.”

While the lineup and ticket information are yet to be revealed, the festival will feature the unique urban jungle atmosphere and other staples from September’s Electric Zoo New York.
