The band was founded in 1995 by Carcass guitarist Michael Amott along with Johan Liiva, who were both originally from the influential death metal band Carnage. The current lineup consists of Jeff Loomis (Nevermore, Sanctuary, Conquering Dystopia), Daniel Erlandsson (Brujeria, In Flames, Eucharist), Sharlee D’Angelo (Spiritual Beggers, Witchery, Dismember) and Alissa White-Gluz, who took over the vocal duties from Angela Gossow.
