The American singer-composer has officially released her hauntingly dreamy rendition of Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Gold Dust Woman’, available for the first time since recording it in 2012.

Julia Holter has shared her cover of classic rock band Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Gold Dust Woman’, which had been unreleased until now since recording the track back in 2012.

This dark take on the song adds a “celestial layer of lucidity” to Fleetwood Mac vocalist Stevie Nicks’ classic. The track was recorded during Holter’s second album, Ekstasis.

Prior to its official release, the track could be found online and was featured in the E3 trailer for the 2016 action-adventure video game, Dishonored 2.

Holter says of the cover:

“I always wanted to make this cover available officially. I recorded it at home in 2012 for a Mojo special on Fleetwood Mac. The propulsive dark vibe of this song was appealing and I think the raw energy of my recording captures an exhilarated moment in time for me, in which I was about to start touring, playing my own music for the first time.”

‘Gold Dust Woman’ is one of Fleetwood Mac’s best known songs, taken from their popular 1977 album Rumours.

Holter had recently released her fifth studio album Aviary in 2018, which had won many accolades and was featured in various publications’ year-end lists as one of the best albums of that year.

The singer-songwriter also recently scored the soundtrack for the 2020 drama film Never Rarely Sometimes Always.
