The former Spice Girl’s highly-anticipated eighth album takes listeners on an introspective journey celebrating growth and self-acceptance. A livestream performance was held prior to the album’s release which features the singer performing songs from the album as well as a DJ set.

Earlier this month, Melanie C aka Sporty Spice has released her highly-anticipated eighth album. The self-titled record, called “her best work” by The Guardian, is her newest LP in four years.

Melanie C strays away from the iconic singer’s past albums of pop and soft rock into a more electropop/dance territory, and is a welcome change for the superstar. The ten-track album is her at most mature, tackling themes of self-acceptance and empowerment from start to finish.

For a veteran singer in the industry, one who no longer takes center stage in the spotlight and someone who has passed the pop torch to more contemporary artists such as Billie Eilish (who was presented with a BRIT Award by Melanie C herself no doubt), the record nevertheless allows the singer to shine offering relatable songs for listeners to dance and bop while under lockdown.

The album features previously released singles ‘Who I Am’, ‘Blame It On Me’, ‘In and Out of Love’, and ‘Fearless’.

‘Who I Am’ is an unapologetic pop-dance anthem of self-assurance, with the singer telling listeners to value their own self-worth. Dance banger ‘Blame It On Me’ deals with toxic relationships where as ‘In and Out Love’ serves as a straightforward and upbeat pop tune.

Other notable tracks include ‘Nowhere to Run’ which features hip-hop beats that displays the singer’s versatility, and the closing track and sentimental ballad ‘End of Everything’.

Fans who bought the CD version of the album are given a second disc that features three bonus tracks and three remixes.

Prior to the release of the album, Melanie C gave fans the ‘Colour and Light’ livestream concert. The two-hour livestream performance was split into two parts. The first part features the superstar singing live renditions of songs from the album and features a live band. The performance is helped by Melanic C in top physical form, with boundless, positive energy as she sings and dances top the new song.

Part of the performance can be viewed on YouTube below, her live performance of ‘Blame It On Me’.

The second part, the after-party stream takes the singer to the DJ booth, where she played house tracks as well as Spice Girls staples such as ‘Stop’ and ‘Wannabe’. Once again, the singer’s enthusiasm has left those watching the stream smiles on their faces (and some much needed cardio workout during this dreadful corona season).

Fans who missed out on the DJ set can watch the replay on YouTube below.
