Collective Minds welcomes Disco/Funk DJ, Tuxedo to Singapore and Asia this November.

Tuxedo comprises of soul singer Mayer Hawthorne and hip-hop producer Jake One. Their first debut album features a blend of the late 70s and early 80s with R&B-inspired jams and shades of Dave Grusin/Lee Ritenour and smooth jazz undertones.

The fruits of a long-standing friendship started with three tracks that mysteriously showed up on the Internet nearly two years ago. In between Mayer’s solo albums, and Jake’s productions for Drake, Fun., J. Cole, etc., these three tracks became a full album’s worth of Tuxedo. The album was mixed by original disco don dada John Morales at his home studio in South Plainfield, New Jersey. “I flew out there”. Then the collaboration truly began where both Hawthorne and One exchange a series of boogie funk mixtapes back in 2006 where “Lost Lover” ended up being the first song on the album.
Their debut self-titled album was released in 2015 under Stones Throw Records in, which also marks Mayer’s return to the label since his debut release of A Strange Arrangement in 2009. Tuxedo debuted at number 6 on the R&B Albums chart and number 2 on the Heatseekers’ chart and received critical acclaimed by reputable publications including Billboard and Noisey.
