Rich Brian, NIKI, and Warren Hue shared a live acoustic version of their latest hit single, ‘California’. The performance originally premiered on 88rising’s ‘Asia Rising Together’ livestream.

The acoustic version of ‘California’ sees the three Indonesian singers perform a melancholic take on the hit single about them having found their new home and facing anxieties in Los Angeles.

The live rendition originally premiered on 88rising’s ‘Asia Rising Together’ in support of Asian Mental Health Collective.

Over wistful acoustic guitar and ethereal production from Wallis Lane, Jack LoMastro, and Jacob Ray, ‘California’ is an arresting introduction to the next ‘Head In The Clouds’ installment.

‘California’ is the latest collaborative single by Rich Brian, NIKI, and newcomer Warren Hue. It is the second single off of Head in the Clouds III, the third installment of 88rising’s compilation albums that highlight the musical talents of prominent Asian-American artists as well as special guests.

The track, released last month, has racked up an impressive 18 million streams to date. The music video currently has a total of over seven million views on YouTube.

Rich Brian says,

“This song is about three Indonesian kids that managed to chase their dreams. Whether it’s acting, being a scientist or an architect or both, it’s all attainable. In this case NIKI, Warren, and I attained the same thing and that is making a career in California, which comes with its highs and lows.”

Warren Hue also shares,

“The verse I wrote included the reality of being Asian in America and how I see California as a whole. The process of making this song was interesting because it shows the perspective of three Indonesians talking about America and it’s definitely a fun project.”

NIKI adds,

“It was so great to have gotten the opportunity to collaborate with my fellow Indonesians Rich Brian & Warren Hue. Songwriting-wise, it was the most organic coming-together between the three of us. Hope you guys enjoy it!”

The label will also host their next iteration of their ‘Head in the Clouds’ music festival in November at Brookside at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California. Tickets can be purchased here.
