After a year-long hiatus, dream-pop band Rosalyn is back—and they’re better than ever! The band, known for their sultry, atmospheric sound, has been on a rollercoaster ride, navigating major member changes and rethinking their next move. But now, they’re ready to reintroduce themselves with a fresh new single, “What’s Up,” featuring the sweet vocals and lyrics of Lara Mae, a talented artist from Chiang Mai.

Since dropping their debut album in 2022, Rosalyn took fans on a thrilling journey of music and performances, touring across Thailand and abroad. But by mid-2024, lead vocalist Nutty made the decision to step away from the band to pursue his own personal dreams. This major shift led to a pause in the band’s activities, as the remaining members—Aim (guitar), Nas (bass), Michael (synth), and Ping (drums)—took time off to reconnect with their music and find a new direction.

The band’s first single after their break, “Intro (Can’t Keep on Waiting),” was a hint of what was to come. It showed that even with changes, Rosalyn was sticking to their roots, with the signature dreamy, seductive sound still front and center. But now, with “What’s Up,” Rosalyn is offering something new, bringing in Lara Mae as both a co-vocalist and lyricist to add a fresh perspective and sound to their music.

The track is all about the confusing and often frustrating dynamics in relationships, particularly when communication breaks down. “What’s Up” tells the story of two people who know something is wrong, but when asked, the answer is always “It’s nothing.” The more this response is given, the bigger the emotional distance becomes. The song explores that feeling of being stuck behind walls, unable to express what’s really going on—something many can relate to.

Even though the melody is upbeat and danceable, Lara Mae’s personal emotional journey shines through in the lyrics. She explains that during the time she worked on the song, she was going through a sensitive moment emotionally. This mix of vulnerability and energetic rhythm creates a contrast that gives the song depth and makes it stand out.

With “What’s Up,” Rosalyn is not just returning—they’re evolving. The decision to bring in guest artists rather than permanently replacing Nutty with a new lead vocalist is a clear signal of the band’s growth. Instead of sticking to old formulas, they’re opening themselves up to new collaborations and sounds, all while staying true to the dream-pop vibe that made them beloved by fans.

For Rosalyn, this new direction is just the beginning. They’re excited to see where this next chapter takes them—and so are their fans. If you loved their previous work, “What’s Up” is the perfect mix of what you know and what’s to come.
