The Dutch dance music duo are back with a new catchy tune titled ‘What Is Love’ featuring the vocal talent of Danish singer Theresa Rex.
‘What is love without someone to love ya?’ questions Theresa Rex in Showtek’s newest single, ‘What Is Love’.
Exploring themes of unrequited love and relationship struggles, ‘What Is Love’ is an earworm that offers listeners an uplifting dance tune juxtaposed with somber lyrics.
“What is love. A philosopher’s favorite question. For musicians like us it’s a great way to express how we feel. The 90’s house music style is a big part of our lives and inspiration personally, and a perfect way to lay that sentiment down into a track. We wrote this one with Jessie Reyez and love how Theresa Rex performed her vocals on this. Both great artists we loved working with.”
Theresa Rex adds,
“I just love this song, I love the lyrics, the vibe, the whole thing. I’m so glad it’s finally out for the world to hear. Working with Showtek has been so easy, I feel like we had the same vision for the song and I hope it shines through.”
‘What Is Love’ marks the third release by the world-renowned duo this year, following ‘Pum Pum’ with Sevenn and ‘Someone Like Me’ with Lxandra.
Formed in 2001 and consisting of brothers Wouter and Sjoerd Janssen, Showtek dominated the underground hardstyle scene until 2011 before changing their sound and becoming a significant force in the EDM boom the next year.
They exploded onto the global dance scene in 2012 with popular singles ‘Cannonball’ and ‘Booyah’, the latter reaching the top 5 spot in the UK Singles Chart and becoming their first worldwide major hit.
They followed up with ‘Bad’ with David Guetta which amassed over one billion streams. Outside the EDM scene, they help produce radio hits for Chris Brown on ‘Nobody’s Perfect’ and Carly Rae Jepsen on their remix of ‘Tonight I’m Getting Over You’.
The Dutch duo have performed in main stages all around the world at festivals including Coachella, EDC Las Vegas, Ultra Music Festival, Creamfields, Lollapalooza, Electric Zoo, among others.
Danish singer Theresa Rex is the voice behind many global hits, best known for Martin Jensen’s ‘Solo Dance’ which garnered over 650 million streams as well as Jonas Blue’s ‘What I Like About You’ with more than 250 streams.
One of the most sought-after vocalists in dance music, she has since lent her vocal work to many successful singles including Frank Welker’s cover of sixpence None The Richer’s ‘Kiss Me’ as well as Alle Farbnen’s ‘Sex’.
