If you’ve ever felt like getting on a bike and just riding off to nowhere after a heartbreak, SIRUP and hard life’s new track “RENDEZVOUS” might hit home.
Released on May 7 with a dreamy music video that followed on May 12, “RENDEZVOUS” is more than just a breakup song—it’s a mellow groove that blends emotional lyrics with smooth, floaty rhythms. It’s what happens when two artists known for pushing genre boundaries decide to explore heartbreak not with loud beats, but with something more reflective.
This cross-country collab brings together Japan’s own genre-mixing singer SIRUP and UK indie band hard life (formerly easy life), best known for their laid-back, chart-climbing hits and their 2020 NME award for Best New British Act. The track’s production was handled by Taka Perry, who’s also producing hard life’s upcoming album onion (out this July).
The song is heartfelt and catchy, but what really pulls you in is the music video. Directed by Shunsuke Shiraiwa, the same mind behind SIRUP’s “UMAMI”, the video follows two friends cycling through empty streets and quiet countryside, all while carrying the weight of unspoken emotions. The landscapes blur past them as the scenery slowly transforms, until they eventually arrive—somewhere far beyond Earth. That final shot, floating through the cosmos, feels like a release: from sadness, from memories, from reality itself.
Even behind the scenes, the project kept a relaxed and friendly vibe. SIRUP, hard life’s frontman Murray, and Taka Perry are real-life friends, which made the filming process full of laughs. Murray even tried his hand at SIRUP’s Japanese verse—he’s learning the language! A full behind-the-scenes look will be shared soon on their social media.
This release also comes just in time for SIRUP’s NEXT LIFE TOUR 2025, kicking off June 1 in Nagoya and wrapping up on July 18 in Tokyo, with stops in eight cities across Japan. Fans can expect a mix of hits, new unreleased tracks, and that signature energy SIRUP brings to every performance.
With his recent solo shows in Thailand and South Korea, SIRUP continues to build a global presence—and “RENDEZVOUS” proves he’s not slowing down anytime soon.
