The iconic progressive metal outfit from Sweden will perform in Singapore on 8 December at Live at The Crossroads!
The band has recently released their thirteenth album βIn Cauda Venenumβ, an engaging, panoramic and intense oeuvre which promises its ability to charm with delightful and wistful melodies.
Sweden’s Opeth are one of the most influential heavy metal groups to emerge from Northern Europe. They have traveled a long way since their humble beginnings in Huddinge, a small town south of Stockholm.
βIn Cauda Venenumβ is Opethβs finest hour.Β
The band has released their most important record to date with βIn Cauda Venenumβ. Certainly, fans and critics will have their opinion, but few records in the Swedesβ oeuvre are as engaging, delicate, panoramic, intense, and musical as Opethβs lucky thirteenth.
Sporting a clever Travis Smith coverβreplete with inside jokes and a nod to King Diamondβa masterful Park Studios (The Hellacopters, Graveyard) production, Opethβs usual five-star musicianship, and lyrics entirely in Swedish, βIn Cauda Venenumβ raises the bar markedly. While a record in Swedish is a firstβthereβs also an English versionβfor frontman and founding member Mikael Γ kerfeldt, the 10 songs on offer feel and sound completely natural. As if years of listening to and being a fan of Swedish rock and hard rock has paid off. In a way, Opeth have come home.
βIn Cauda Venenumβ is like that, tricky in its complicated simplicity, resourceful in its ability to charm with delightful if wistful melodies. Really, itβs just Opeth being Opeth.
βOpethβs chemistry feels as tight as it is playful, heartfelt as it is engaging, as they explore a plethora of intriguing and majestic sounds. The instrumentation and vocals, in both versions, serve to present emotion and instrumental wonder. In Cauda Venenum is among Opethβs strongest albums when it comes to the bandβs progressive sensibilities.β

Says Γ kerfeldt,
βThis is me. This is Opeth. I think by now fans will recognizeβat least I hope they doβmy writing style, our sound, what we do as a band. There are a lot of surprises on In Cauda Venenumβ¦β
Where Opeth go from here, itβs on tour in support of the album.
Clearly, since the bi-lingual brilliance of βIn Cauda Venenumβ has been released, Opethβs dedicated fanbase will be eager to hear, absorb, and experience the record in the flesh.
As for what Γ kerfeldt wants from his ardent followers is for them to appreciate the latest Opeth chapter in the same way they have 1996βs βMorningriseβ, 2003βs βDamnationβ, and 2014βs βPale Communionβ.
βOf course, I want everybody to love everything that we do. But itβs secondary to me. I canβt control that, and I donβt want to. I really donβt know what theyβll think about it. I donβt know how people listen to music these days. I donβt know how people feel about it music. I know how I listen to music. I provide the time to listen to music. I make time for music. Iβm not doing something else while music is playing. Iβd like everybody to focus on the new record. Thatβs no different from the Opeth records. Iβve always wanted people to focus on our music; not treat it as background music for daily chores, white noise, or whatever. If you want to get into this record, Iβm hoping youβll find, by our standards, something different.β
