Psychedelic folk singer Devendra Banhart to perform in Singapore

Devendra Banhart is bringing his trippy-hippie psychedelic folk tunes to Singapore.

He will be playing a special duo show with Grammy-winning folk rocker and long-time collaborator Noah Georgeson on Thursday, June 14 at The Projector, Symmetry Entertainment announced.

This is the second show confirmed for the Venezuelan-American crooner’s first jaunt to Southeast Asia. His Bangkok show was announced last week and has since been sold out.

After leaving art school to busk, Banhart was discovered by Young God Records head Michael Gira, who would release the former’s breakthrough sophomore album, Oh Me Oh My…, on his imprint in 2002. Subsequent albums like Rejoicing in the Hands (2004), Niño Rojo (2004), Cripple Crow (2005), saw Banhart at his most ambitious, earning him the title of the leader of the “freak folk” movement.

With later releases, the singer-songwriter organised some of his elaborate elements into more straightforward and cohesive sets. 2013’s Mala was a success among critics as well as on the charts. It was followed by his ninth effort Ape in Pink Marble in 2016.
