Due to the postponement of Tomorrowland for two consecutive years in 2020 and 2021, the festival plans to organize three weekends instead of two for 2022.

The organizers of Tomorrowland hope that they can give festival-goers three weekends instead of two next year in Belgium.

According to an article in Her Laatste Nieuws, the organisation will submit an application to the municipalities of Boom and Rumst as well as to the Antwerp province.

They cite that it is an “economic necessity” to add an extra weekend to make up for the festival postponements in 2020 and 2021 due to ongoing COVID-19 situation.

Tomorrowland spokesperson Debby Wilmsen says,

“We really have to do this to cushion the financial hangover. Before COVID, there were no plans to start organising three weekends.

Do not forget that we have already had to miss six festival weekends, four in Belgium and another two in France with Tomorrowland Winter. We also owe it to our festival-goers; we get an enormous amount of questions about tickets and the waiting lists keep growing”

For 2022, Tomorrowland are planning to add the extra weekend on July 15-17 to the already confirmed rescheduled dates of July 22-24 and July 29-31.

If the plan gets the greenlight, there will be positive outcomes for those who have already purchased their tickets as well as those who have not.

For one, ticket buyers who have purchased passes for the festival two years ago are eligible to use them for Tomorrowland 2022.

Additionally, by opening up another weekend, there will be more chances for people to buy passes.

However, the three weekend plan is expected to be a one-time event to help recuperate festival costs.

Wilmsen adds,

“It is not the intention that these three weekends remain after next year. Our request really is one-off.”

Tomorrowland began organising two weekends for the first time on their 10th anniversary in 2014. At the time, two weekends were only to happen on special annual celebrations for every five editions of the electronic dance music festival.

The festival permanently changed to two weekends every year after being granted permits from the Belgian government.

After two years of unfortunate circumstances, we remain hopeful Tomorrowland will bounce back and offer an incredible lifetime experience for the People of Tomorrow, where they will unite through music once more.
