J-pop legend ayumi hamasaki just hit a major milestone — 27 years in the music industry — and she’s celebrating in the best way possible: with a brand-new single and the launch of her 2025 Asia tour. On April 8, exactly 27 years since her debut, she dropped “mimosa”, a deeply emotional track that also doubles as the theme song for Fuji TV’s drama Second to Last Love 続・続・最後から二番目の恋.
If you’re a fan of drama soundtracks, this one’s a big deal — it’s her first time writing a theme song for a drama in 25 years. Her last one? The classic “SEASONS” back in 2000. That song became a staple in her discography and helped define an entire era of J-pop.
What makes this release extra meaningful is her history with the Second to Last Love series. She’s been part of its journey from the start, providing the themes for Season 1 (“how beautiful you are” in 2012) and Season 2 (“Hello new me” in 2014). Now, with “mimosa”, she’s closing out the trilogy of songs in heartfelt fashion.
“I’m truly honored to provide the theme song once again,” ayumi shared. “There are things that change and things that stay the same — this song captures both. I hope it connects with those who’ve followed the series, and also with those hearing it for the first time.”
Composed by longtime collaborator Kunio Tago — the mind behind fan favorites like “Days” and “Key eternal tie ver..” — “mimosa” is soft, emotional, and full of warmth. It’s the kind of song you turn to when you need a bit of comfort and strength.
But that’s not all. On the same day as the single release, ayumi hamasaki officially kicked off the ayumi hamasaki ASIA TOUR 2025 I am ayu -epi.II- in Japan. While tour stops outside Japan haven’t been revealed just yet, one thing’s for sure: she’s gearing up to bring her powerful vocals and stage presence to fans all over Asia.
Whether you’ve followed her since the early 2000s or are just discovering her now, “mimosa” and this new tour are a reminder that ayumi hamasaki’s legacy is far from over — and she’s still finding new ways to connect, move, and inspire.
