The popular Chinese hip-hop group have returned with new single ‘Empire’. The new release marks the group’s first single in over a year and a half since their second album Five Stars.
Executive produced by member Masiwei, the new single exemplifies the Chinese hip-hop breakout stars’ trap music style.
The MV, directed by VerseStudio, stars the Brothers rapping in a wide open desert on their dune buggies.
The desert has been described as a metaphor for the hip-hop world – “a sea of surging sand, beautiful and in awe”. It is here that the Brothers stand proudly in this vast open world, representing themselves as a force to be reckoned with.
The single is the group’s first release together in over a year and a half since their second album ‘Five Stars’. During that period, each member took turns releasing one solo album – KnowKnow’s Mr. Enjoy Da Money, Masiwei’s Prince Charming, Melo’s Old Master, Psy.P’s PSYLIFE.25.
Praised by The New York Times as “the breakout stars of the Chinese hip-hop world”, Higher Brothers have become one of the first Chinese rap groups to enjoy massive international success. The Chengdu-based quartet released their second album, Five Stars, via 88rising, and features guest artists such as Ski Mask the Slump God, Denzel Curry, Soulja Boy as well as labelmates NIKI and Rich Brian.
