Having fronted indie rock band Little Big League for three years, in 2013 Michelle Zauner returned to her hometown of Eugene, Oregon to tend to her unwell mother. The experimental pop music which would become Japanese Breakfast was born out of that time at home and “self-meditation”. Zauner released debut album Psychopomp in 2016 and followup Soft Sounds From Another Planet this year.
