Filipino rock fans will be able to scream their guts out with Green Day’s award-winning musical American Idiot Manila premiering this June.
With book and lyrics written by Billie Joe Armstrong, and music by Green Day themselves, the musical’s Manila run is brought to you by 9Works Theatrical and Globe.
Tickets will be up for grabs starting May 24.
Both new and old faces were seen at last weekend’s callback auditions in Manila held by 9Works Theatrical and Globe. The audition included several reality TV contestants and former rock band members, securing its spot as one of the Philippines’ most anticipated rock shows this year.
American Idiot tells the story of three boyhood friends—Johnny, Will, and Tunny, and their complicated lives post 9/11.
Roles for the auditions include male leads Johnny, Tunny and Will, male support Jimmy, female support Heather, Whatsername and Extraordinary Girl, and both male and female ensemble support. All roles require a minimum age of 18 years old.
The smash hit musical will feature numbers from Green Day’s 2004 album —“American Idiot,” “Boulevard of Broken Dreams,” “Holiday,” “Wake Me Up When September Ends,” and “Jesus of Suburbia,” as well as hits from the trio’s 2009 follow-up 21st Century Breakdown.
The musical has earned numerous awards, including two Tony Awards, Best Scenic Design of a Musical for Christine Jones, Best Lighting Design of a Musical for Kevin Adams, and a Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album. American Idiot first debuted on Broadway in 2010, and again in West End in 2015.
