Singapore singer-songwriter Inch Chua explores thought-provoking questions in her latest single ‘Flags’, which features fellow rapper ShiGGa Shay.
Over the past few months, we have had to come to terms with a rather stressful time caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the general social unrest that has spread around the world like wildfire.
The question is – how do we respond as humans? What do we do when the world seems like it is failing us?
These topical questions are incredibly thought-provoking, and they are at the core of Singaporean multidisciplinary artist and singer / songwriter, inch’s brand new single, ‘Flags’, which features fellow rapper ShiGGa Shay.
On working together with ShiGGa Shay,
“He is like a younger brother to me, and we have collaborated on a number of occasions. However, this is the first time he’s jumping on a track of mine, and it feels nice to be able to share this with him.”
‘Flags’ has the sound and feel of a catchy art-pop tune, but there is so much more to it than that. It is a track that is loaded with passion and meaning, combining catchy hooks with deeper thoughts, and a very outspoken commentary on the current state of affairs in the world.
How do you respond when the world is breaking your heart?
Turn on the news and it’s flooded with human’s perpetual posturing, self-imagined importance, and the delusions that we have some privileged position in the universe; and an entitlement to everything.
Flags signify many things, and inch cannot stop seeing them everywhere. Flags that celebrate exploration. Flags that determine occupation. Flags that stake ownership. Do we only love when we own it?
An official music video of ‘Flags’ will be released in the upcoming weeks. The video will showcase never seen before rehearsal footage from inch’s 2018 show, ‘No Man’s Land’, which revolved around her trip and experiences as part of 2041’s International Antarctic ClimateForce Expedition. inch is also currently working on her next full-length album with a first single slated for Q4 of 2020.
ShiGGa Shay has announced that all proceeds made from his recently released ‘S$’ mixtape in June, July and August 2020 will be donated to the Black Lives Matter Los Angeles chapter. Taking a leaf from his book, inch will also be donating all proceeds made from July, August, and September to H.O.M.E. – the Humanitarian Organization for Migration Economics [“H.O.M.E.”], a Singapore-based charity dedicated to empowering and supporting migrant workers who find themselves victims of human rights violations and suffer abuse and exploitation.
