British Pop Rock band The Vamps talk music, touring, their latest album and what to expect at their gig on August 15th
Last in Singapore in 2016 for a gig at The Coliseum at Hard Rock Hotel, Resorts World Sentosa, Pop Rock band The Vamps have returned to the region for their Four Corners Tour which now would take them to Indonesia, Singapore, South Korea and Japan.
Consisting of members Bradley Simpson, James McVey, Connor Ball and Tristan Evans, the band have also recently released their album ‘Night & Day’ – which was done in two parts; a Night Edition which came out in 2017, and a Day Edition, which came out the following year.
Ahead of their gig here in Singapore, AsiaLive365 recently had a chance to catch up with the bubbly band, and this is what they have to say about their music and the (music) stuff that they have been up to since their last visit to Asia.
ASL365: Hi guys! Vanessa here from AsiaLive365. Welcome back to Singapore!
So guys, what do you look forward to being back in Singapore? Any favourite food that you’ve missed? Or perhaps the sunny weather?
Bradley: Hi! Yes, it’s been a while and we’re so excited to be coming back after all this time. We have such great memories from the last show, we can’t wait to be reunited with all of you.
Tristan: We’ve released a lot of new music since we were last in Singapore so we’re really looking forward to sharing that with you all. The Night & Day Album, our recent Missing You EP. I’m sure there will be some surprises as well.
ASL365: Apart from the release of the third album, what have you guys been up to since your last visit here?
Tristan: All of our tours are different, we’re always thinking of ways we can make them exciting, whether its by using screens, pyrotechnics, the set list, special guests or the location. For our Four Corners Tour we wanted to try and visit as many places in the world as possible, many places that we haven’t been to before or that like Singapore, we haven’t been to for a long time. It’s great we’re able to do that!
ASL365: ‘Night & Day’ is a brilliant album – filled with colourful and catchy layers and tones. ‘Middle of The Night’ is my personal favourite. Please tell us more about this aces concept album. What or who was the inspiration for it? Also, why was it released in two parts?
Bradley: We did two parts for Night & Day because we had a lot of tracks at the time, and we thought it would be a cool idea to split them into tracks that fitted day time and tracks that fitted night time, reflecting the difference between nighttime and daytime and how the music you listen to changes between the two. Night has a party vibe whilst Day is much more chilled.
James: We’ve all got quite different music tastes and so get our inspiration from lots of different places. We’re constantly being inspired – I think it’s impossible to ignore what’s being played on the radio and Spotify, and we’re also always learning from other new artists.
ASL365: You guys have a few collaborations with other artists on that album. What was that like? Who was the most fun artist to work with?
Connor: Yeah we’ve been really lucky, we’ve supported some amazing people and we’ve also had some great artists tour with us. It’s fun having other people around, you’re like one big family so it’s a great bonding experience. I couldn’t pick a favourite! They were all really kind to us.
ASL365: If you could collaborate on a future track with any artist in the world, who would it be and why?
James: Dream collaboration for me… Taylor Swift probably. (laughs) I love country and pop so she’s the dream.
ASL365: You guys have constantly been on tour since 2012 – what is that like, and what do you most like (or dislike, if any) about it?
Bradley: It’s incredible to think of the journey we’ve been on over the last few years. Not only have we massively developed as artists, musicians and songwriters but we’ve also grown up a lot in that time. To be able to say this year that we were the first band to ever headline the O2 arena in London 5 years in a row is insane. It’s all thanks to you really, our fans have been on the journey with us and they’ve supported us all of the way. Thank you.
ASL365: What is that one song that you guys absolutely love to play on tour for your fans?
Connor: it changes! At the moment we’re enjoying playing our new tracks like Waves and Missing You but it’s always fun when the crowd go crazy for some of the older songs like Wild Heart.
ASL365: What can fans look forward to at your gig on Aug 15th at the Hard Rock Coliseum?
Tristan: We’ve released a lot of new music since we were last in Singapore so we’re really looking forward to sharing that with you all. The Night & Day Album, our recent Missing You EP.. I’m sure there will be some surprises as well.
ASL365: Anything else you like to say to your fans in Asia?
Connor: We can’t wait to be back in Singapore and see you all, thank you for staying with us on this journey. Come to the show, have a dance and sing and lets have fun! We’re so excited and we love you a lot!
