Indonesian songstress NIKI reaches global pop sensation status as her single ‘Every Summertime’, released in August, garners over 60 million cumulative streams.

NIKI’s throwback single ‘Every Summertime’, co-written and co-produced with Jacob Ray, has cemented the singer as a worldwide phenomenon.

Just last week, the track charted in Spotify’s Daily Top 50 in the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore. It has also charted in Spotify’s Global Daily Viral 50 and across the USA, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, among others.

‘Every Summertime’ was first released as the lead single for the Marvel Studios’ film, Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings.

Interestingly, three music videos were released for the track. The first, released in August, was a visualizer starring a father and son played by rapper and actor Dumbfoundead and Minari star Alan Kim driving around the neighbourhood.

The second video, released in conjunction with the film Shang-Chi, sees NIKI singing and dancing through the aisles of Asian-American grocery chain 99 Ranch Supermarket.

An official music video, which chronicles NIKI’s rise to pop superstardom, was released in December.

NIKI comments,

“‘Every Summertime’ came together so fast – we wrote it in less than an hour! It was one of those magical moments where there’s a special kind of alchemy happening whilst creating and now it’s one of our favorite songs of our careers.”

In an interview with TeenVogue, she explains,

“I think I just wanted to get at the Asian diasporic experience. What it would look like for two first-generation Asian Americans, going to college and falling in love—that was the inspiration.”
