Japanese rock legends RADWIMPS are back with a brand new song, and it’s one that hits close to the heart. Titled “Tamamono”, the track is the official theme song for the new NHK drama Anpan, and it’s already tugging on listeners’ emotions. Whether you’re a long-time RADWIMPS fan or new to their music, this one’s worth putting on repeat.
The drama Anpan tells the true story behind the creation of the beloved children’s character Anpanman. But it’s more than just a backstory. It’s a tale of love, grit, and the kind of quiet strength that keeps people going even when everything feels impossible. Sound familiar? That’s exactly the kind of emotional storytelling RADWIMPS has always been amazing at capturing in their music.
Lead vocalist Yojiro Noda shared that writing “Tamamono” wasn’t easy—it was a process that unfolded gradually as he received the script in pieces, almost like letters from the characters themselves. “The more I read, the more I loved Nobu and Takashi,” he says. “The more I loved them, the harder it was to find the perfect sound.” In the end, he aimed to write something that could 1) help people get out of bed on tough days, 2) reflect the warmth and energy of Nobu, and 3) feel bold and alive.
The result? A song that feels like a deep breath after a long cry—a mix of hope, honesty, and the kind of energy that quietly lifts you when you’re down. You can watch the show’s vibrant opening sequence, directed by Ray Wakui, on YouTube now. It’s a visually rich, fast-paced introduction to the world of Anpan, featuring actress Mio Imada literally sprinting through the noise and pressure of modern life.
And that’s not all RADWIMPS has in store. To celebrate their 20th anniversary, the band is releasing some of their most iconic albums on vinyl—starting with Batsu To Maru To Tsumi To on May 7, 2025. More vinyl drops will follow each month through September, giving fans a chance to revisit (or discover) the sounds that shaped a generation.
