Shedding his charismatic boy-next-door outlook for a brand new sound, Singaporean singer-songwriter RON is back with new track ‘Push & Pull’.
A departure from his lo-fi and folk pop sound, RON’s latest track enters pop-R&B territory with darker thematic subject matter.
Layered with synths, falsettos, and a strong hook, the new song serves as an introduction tot he 26-year-old singer’s upcoming five-track anxious EP themed around romance and identity struggles.
Inspired by contemporaries such as The Weeknd, Troye Sivan, and Bazzi, the EP follows an autobiographical account treading through subjects such as addiction, anxiety/depression and escapism.
‘Push & Pull’ addresses toxic relationships and the complications that come with attaching self-worth with another.
RON recounts,
“What was difficult about the experience was learning to convince myself that leaving this toxic ex-lover was an act of self-love and not a habit of escapism. I only realised it was love bombing & abusive when I stepped out of the picture months after, but the damage was done.
“I hope listeners take away the message that it is perfectly okay to make your own rules & set boundaries. Endings can be beautiful beginnings, only this one left quite a scar but also gifted me a valuable lesson.”
RON (Ronald Goh) has performed at events in Singapore including SHINE Festival and Baybeats, and supported fellow Singaporean artists The Sam Willows, Tabitha Nauser and Sezairi.
2021 saw the musician release two singles, ‘can’t get you off my head’ and ‘all too late’, the latter charting on Spotify’s New Music Friday and Apple Music’s New Music Daily playlists.
