Toronto-based singer Virginia To Vegas kicks off 2022 with an 80’s-inspired three-song EP titled it’s a little complicated, but i’m okay.
Following his latest single ‘amnesia’ in December, Derik Baker aka Virginia To Vegas shares his mini EP – it’s complicated, but i’m okay. – today that serves as the perfect post-breakup soundtrack.
Baker explains,
“I think with all of my music, I try to write songs that feel like they are soundtracks to the listener’s own personal movie. Everyone lives such a unique life but a lot of our experiences are exactly the same, so my goal is just to write music that everyone can relate to and makes them feel something.”
The release marks Baker’s first piece of content for 2022, made remotely from ideas developed at home or in hotel rooms years ago.
The EP was co-written by Baker, Geoff Warburton (Shawn Mendes) and Mike Wise (Ellie Goulding, Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys).
Baker says,
“There’s a few new writers who I worked on this EP, literally over voice notes. Haley Joelle for one, is having a moment right now, and I think she’s such a talented young artist, and we literally wrote the song [‘outerspace’] in five minutes.
Another big Nashville influence came from Seth Ennis, a great country artist in his own right, [who collaborated on ‘no excuses’], but also one of the writers for one of my favorite bands right now, THE BAND CAMINO.”
An independent artist who shared the stage with Post Malone, Ed Sheeran, and Maroon 5, Virginia To Vegas earned massive stream numbers last year and an increasing fanbase across Asia.
His single, ‘amnesia’, was picked up by 12 radio stations across Southeast Asia, which include Kiss 92 FM (Singapore), 96.8 Elfara FM (Indonesia), Phoenix Radio Bali and more.
