Singer-songwriter Yaya Bey releases ‘reprise’, a track that “captures women’s exhaustion everywhere, with its lyrical tug-of-war of bettering oneself while trying to cut yourself off from toxic relationships.”
The singer comments on the release,
“I really just wrote this joint to process mad emotions and shit,” explains Bey, “sometimes songs just happen cause they need to.”
The track is taken from her forthcoming album Remember Your North Star due for release on June 17. The album features previously released singles ‘alright’ and ‘keisha’.
Her new album fuses elements of soul, jazz, reggae, afrobeat and hip-hop.
One of R&B’s most exciting storytellers, Yaya Bey uses a combination of ancestral forces and her own self-actualization to seamlessly navigate life’s hardships and joyful moments through music.
A critically acclaimed multidisciplinary artist and art curator, with multiple fine art residencies with MoCADA, she draws on themes of misogynoir, unpacking generational trauma, carefree romance, parental relationships, women empowerment and self-love.
