The battle is so on as Justin Bieber and One Direction’s latest albums came out on the same day (Nov 13). It hasn’t even been a week since but it looks like the home team is reigning the UK chart.
Official Charts reports One Direction’s Made In The AM is outpacing Bieber’s Purpose by 14,000 combined chart sales. But of course, with four more days to go before round one is officially over, the “Sorry” singer still has time to get ahead.
If both albums keep going at their current sales momentum, Made In The AM will be the British and Irish boyband’s fourth UK Number 1 album in the UK following their previous records, Take Me Home (2012), Midnight Memories (2013) and Four (2014). Similarly, if Bieber can alter the situation in time, Purpose will be his second album to take the UK Number 1 crown after 2012’s Believe.
Meanwhile, the odds are in Bieber’s favour over in the US as insiders suggest his album sales could surpass that of One Direction by 25,000 units at 500,000 units by the week’s end.
Both albums are vying for the top slot on December 5’s Billboard 200 albums chart.
