With Ultra and Sunny Side Up rolling around for another year, Bali is far from being short on music festivals. But, mind you, the scene is about to get more exciting.

Award-winning summer indie and electronic music festival Bestival is about to branch out to Asia for the first time and arrive on the shores of Bali on September 30-October 1 at GWK Cultural Park in Uluwatu.

The lineup will be revealed later this week, but from the festival that’s billed Florence + The Machine, Beck and The Chemical Brothers in the past, not to mention The xx and A Tribe Called Quest this year, we can expect great things at its Bali spinoff.

Founded by DJ Rob da Bank his wife and Josie, Bestival was first held in 2004 on The Isle of Wight. Since then has been hailed as summer’s most anticipated music event in the UK. It is known for the colourful, fun and zany atmosphere as well as its themed Saturday where every attendee dress up in a fancy attire.

The festival relocated to Toronto in 2015 and 2016. It’s heading back to the UK for this year’s four-day edition on Dorset’s Jurassic Coast on September 7-10.

Update (Jun 29): Bestival Bali reveals its first batch of lineup artists, including alt-J, Rudimental (DJ set), Purity Ring and De La Soul.

Also joining the festival’s inaugural year are George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic, The Cuban Brothers and DJ and the creator of Bestival Rob da Bank himself. Local acts like Stars and Rabbit and Ras Muhamad are also expected.

More names to be announced soon.

Update (Aug 16): Bestival Bali adds legendary D&B band Pendulum as special guest and an Australian invasion from electronic duo Bag Raiders, Sydney alternative/electronic producer Kilter, and tech-house master Colour Castle.

The festival also announces two more stages, Reggae Roots and Island Sounds, with lineup performers to be revealed soon.
