Keep Faith

Keep Faith Music Video: King Ly Chee Celebrates 25 Years with a Bittersweet Farewell

King Ly Chee is a quarter-century strong!

These Hong Kong hardcore veterans marked their recent milestone by releasing their latest single, “Keep Faith,” a powerful and emotional pit anthem accompanied by a music video combining footage of their final HK gig and a narrative of maverick students and a butcher, weirdly enough. Despite vocalist Riz’s recent move to London, the band proves distance is no match for their creative spirit.

A Touch of Legend: MC YAN Joins the Fray

King Ly Chee didn’t hold back on “Keep Faith.”  They enlisted the talents of Hong Kong rap legend MC YAN. This iconic figure, part of the legendary LMF crew, contributes a blistering verse to the track. His rapping adds a layer of undeniable energy to the song.

A Remote Collaboration Steeped in Hong Kong Spirit:

Miles apart, King Ly Chee’s spirit remains unbroken. Thanks to the wonders of technology, the band could record and edit the “Keep Faith” music video remotely. The legendary Sammy So of KOLOR fame, a longtime collaborator with King Ly Chee, returned to record the track. This reunion ensures a sound that’s unmistakably King Ly Chee.

Passing the Torch: A Skateboarder Makes His Directorial Debut

The “Keep Faith” music video is significant beyond the song itself. The band chose to collaborate with fresh talent in the local scene. They proposed Cheuk Laam, a prominent Hong Kong skateboarder and model, as the video director.  Cheuk Laam’s debut effort is a raw tribute to both Hong Kong and the legacy of the band, which shows at the ending – footage from their past and present gigs and videos. At the same time, Backstreet Boys’ I Want It That Way plays in the background. You must watch the video to believe it; I kid you not.

A Song of Farewell and Departure

“Keep Faith” delves into Riz’s final days in Hong Kong. The song paints a picture of a city that feels stifling, a place where dreams seem to struggle. It evokes a sense of disillusionment, a feeling of being held back. However, amidst the darkness, there’s a flicker of acceptance. The song concludes with a poignant goodbye, a bittersweet farewell to a place that he once loved.

The Future of King Ly Chee: A Farewell, or a New Beginning?

The band remains tight-lipped about whether “Keep Faith” marks their final chapter. However, one thing is sure: they’ve poured their hearts and souls into this song. Whether this is the end or a new chapter, King Ly Chee has delivered a powerful and unforgettable farewell (or perhaps a “see you later”).
