Introduction:

Indonesian alternative pop-rock band MANJA has returned with a compelling new single, “My Oh My,” encouraging listeners to reflect on what truly matters in life. Known for their vibrant sound and powerful messages, MANJA delivers a poignant social commentary wrapped in an upbeat musical package.

About the Single:

“My Oh My” is a vibrant anthem blends MANJA’s signature sound with a powerful social message. The song was born out of frustration and disillusionment, aiming to reflect on meaningful connections and urging listeners to pause and consider the deeper aspects of life. Frontman James Sukadana, guitarist Nick Pratama, and keyboardist Mark Saputra address the cultural shifts overtaking their surroundings.

James explains, “The song is a reminder that we can choose which changes are beneficial for us, both as individuals and as a community.” The band feels that society’s hunger for material wealth and overnight fame has overshadowed fundamental human values like kindness and community. Nick adds, “Life is more than toxic competitiveness and individuality.”

The Message:

The song carries a distinct call to action. Lyrics like “You and I are better off dancing around this town” and “Look around, all we have is one another/Look inside, see the gifts we have to offer” urge listeners to make small changes towards a better society. James believes in the power of these small changes to make a significant impact, filling the audience with hope and optimism. “We can make the world a better place by helping the people around us rather than focusing on the superficial,” he says.

Creation Process:

James describes the songwriting process as piecemeal, starting from the first verse and chorus, then the second verse, and then the bridge. The demo was finished years before the band was signed to their current label. The production was helmed by renowned Indonesian drummer Brian Kresna Putro, with percussionist Ayla Adjie also contributing. Mark recalls, “Collaborating with Ayla was a highlight; it was like being a kid again with all his ‘toys’ to play with.”

Music Video:

The music video for “My Oh My” was shot two hours away from Bangkok, Thailand, and directed by Thai director Khamkwan. This marked the band’s first collaboration with an international production house. The video features stunning visuals, and a narrative complements the song’s message. Nick reflects, “The scorching hot sun had nothing on how much fun we shared on set.”

Conclusion:

“My Oh My” is more than just a song; it’s a mission to reignite the communal spirit’s flame and discover what truly matters in life. MANJA invites listeners to join them in rediscovering the joy of living for something greater than oneself. The track is now available on all major streaming platforms since July 31, 2024.
