DIIV was founded in 2011 as a solo project by ex-Beach Fossils drummer Zachary Cole Smith. He recorded “Sometime” and “Human”, what would become DIIV’s first singles, before recruiting the rest of the band. They released full-length debut album Oshin in 2012 to favourable reception from critics. After a lengthy hiatus, the band returned with 17-track followup Is the Is Are in 2016. It comes in No. 7 on NME’s Albums of the Year 2016 list.
The current lineup consists of Smith (lead vocals, guitar), Andrew Bailey (guitar), Colin Caulfield (keyboard, guitar, backing vocals), Devin Ruben Perez (bass) and Ben Newman (drums).
