The second phase of the Malaysian edition of Levi’s Music Project initiative,  ‘Phase II: Levi’s Upskill Project’, saw the four finalists partake in an intensive upskilling course. Phase I winner Margasatwa has also dropped their new single ‘Yang Asli’ in conjunction with the launch of Phase II.

After a successful first phase at the end of last year, in which four artists were shortlisted to create new songs and perform at Levi’s Virtual Showcase, phase two of the clothing company’s Music Project has commenced.

The four finalists from Phase I – rock band and grand prize winner Margasatwa, indie band Lipstick Fire, rapper DATO’ MAW, and tribal pop musician MAYABAYU – partook in an intensive upskilling course last Saturday (May 29). The workshops were moderated by industry veterans Old Head Jin and Jennifer Thompson.

An all-star lineup of guests speakers consisting of music industry experts joined the session such as jazz queen Dato’ Sheila Majid, L Malaysian composer Mike Chan, concert promoters Zaran Vachla and Ki Promsaka (founders of Singapore’s Collective Minds Asia and Thailand’s HAVE YOU HEARD?, respectively), festival organizers John Uy and Justin Sweeting (of Hong Kong’s CLOCKENFLAP and Philippines’ Wanderland, respectively), and internet personality Harvinth Skin.

In conjunction with the launch of phase two, Margasatwa has also dropped an all new MV for their single, ‘Yang Asli’.
