We won’t say we didn’t see this coming: former Girls’ Generation member Jessica Jung tells High Cut she’s working on her first solo album and it’s due to release next year.

The Korean-American megastarΒ told the magazine in a recent interview, “I never said or admitted I was quitting the entertainment industry. I think life as a celebrity and life as a designer is something I have to juggle well.”

In 2014, Jessica made the headline with her shocking departure from South Korea’s biggest girl group, Girls’ Generation, the reason being she and SM entertainment couldn’t negotiate on her focus on fashion brand Blanc & Eclare.

She remained under SM entertainment until last August, when they finally settled she could head on with her entrepreneurial project.

Speculations about Jessica’s solo album have been making the rounds of the Internet since she posted a picture of her sitting in a recording studio in New York. Another photo from celebrity relations specialist Reggie Martin sees Jessica and Jermaine Jackson from Jackson 5 hanging out. But nothing has been confirmed regarding a collaboration between the two in the upcoming album.

Jessica also opened up about her sister, Krystal from f(x), sayingΒ β€œKrystal and I always cheer for each other. I get a lot of inspirations from her when I’m creating new design for my brand and we discuss things a lot.”
