Today SM Entertainment revealed they are indeed debuting a new band in 2016, confirming the rumours that had been flying around the industry.

A spokesperson told X Sports News, “It’s true we are preparing a new group,” but avoided revealing specific details.

It is highly likely the group in question will be a boy band. This possibility is backed up with the company’s pattern of debuting a boy band every four years (TVXQ! and Super Junior in 2004, SHINee in 2008, and EXO in 2012) and how much the group of trainees known as SM ROOKIES has been in the media recently. Back in September, for instance, the boys from SM ROOKIES put on their first ever showcase “SM ROOKIES Show”.

SM ROOKIES is a project created by SM Entertainment to reveal the lives and activities of both male and females trainees as they grow and prepare to become the next generation K-pop idols.
